What Personal Data We Collect & How We Use It
We collect different kinds of personal data for different purposes, including:
Account Data
By creating an account or signing in, you opt-in to the storage of your activity data (including recognition history, favourites, and interaction metadata) on our servers.
Purpose: authentication, account management, and to provide you with personalized services.
Image Data / Artwork Recognition
When you take a photo of artwork, we process the image (blur/exposure checks) and send it to our backend.
If you are using the App as a guest user, recognition images remain stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to our servers unless you choose to contribute them.
If you are logged-in, recognition images and derived metadata may be stored on our servers to provide the recognition service and to improve model performance. We do not operate an automatic deletion cycle; retention depends on whether you are logged-in and whether you have contributed images.
Purpose: to identify artworks, provide the match result, and improve our recognition system.
Feedback / Interaction Data
You can provide feedback (thumbs-up / thumbs-down on recognition results), save favorites, share, etc.
We collect this interaction data to improve the service (training, retraining), and to maintain your "My Favourites" list.
Contribution Data
If you contribute images (e.g., QR code, label image, gallery images), we collect those images.
You may optionally provide metadata: title, artist, year, medium, dimensions, location.
We also collect the license you choose when submitting (public / venue-only / private).
Purpose: to enrich our database, improve recognition, build a community-driven dataset.
Technical / Usage Data
We collect data such as your IP address, device type, operating system, app usage logs (which screens you visit, timestamps), and other analytics data.
Purpose: to maintain and improve the App, to monitor performance (e.g., recognition latency), and for debugging.
For guest users, certain technical and usage logs may remain only on the device and are not transmitted to Eicon servers unless you create an account or perform an action that triggers a server call.
Notifications
For push notifications (e.g., weekly re-check of unmatched results), we may collect device tokens.
Purpose: to notify you when relevant.
Location Data (if applicable)
If you use GPS-based features (e.g., suggestions of nearby works), we may collect geolocation data (only with your consent).
Purpose: to suggest nearby artworks, to support geofenced visibility (if part of contribution permission).

Guest users: Images remain on your device and are not stored on Eicon servers.
Logged-in users: Recognition images and associated metadata may be retained to operate and improve the service. We do not have an automated deletion script in place.
Contribution: Images you explicitly submit via contribution workflows are stored according to the license you choose.
Contribution data: retained as per your selected license / visibility.
Usage & interaction data: retained to improve our service, model retraining, and analytics.
Account data: retained as long as your account is active; if you close your account, we will delete or anonymise personal data within a reasonable time, unless we are required to retain it (e.g., fraud prevention).
Cookies / Tracking
We may use cookies and similar technologies if you visit our website (if any) for analytics and functional purposes.
For the App, we may use analytics SDKs to collect usage data.
